The new warehouse is all about state-of-the-art technology. It houses 8 cooling rooms, 50 differently sized banana ripening rooms with a capacity of 72,000 boxes per week and 7 ripening rooms for exotic fruits, as well as different packing machines. The latest ripening, refrigeration, lighting and material handling technologies are optimized with respect to low energy use.
In addition to the fruit and vegetables being handled at Southwest, the business includes the ripening, selection and sorting of Greenyard’s ready-to-eat range. The building has an operational floor space of 13,500 m2, and even 15,300 m2 including offices, restrooms, recreation areas and technical rooms.
