Dough: in a bowl: combine the flour, salt, sugar and yeast. Add the butter, milk and egg, and then knead everything into soft and smooth dough.
Cover and let rise at room temperature for approx. 2 hours until the dough doubles in size. Divide the dough in half.
Making the star: divide the dough into 4 balls. Roll out the dough on a floured work surface, to obtain circles of approx. 25 cm in Ø. Place one on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
Mix the jam with the lemon zest and spread on top, place another dough circle on top of the jam, repeat and end with a dough layer. Press the edges of the circles well together.
Place a glass in the center of the layered dough circles and press down (but do not cut). Now cut in approx. 16 strips.
Twist the strips and connect 2 by 2 to form ‘hearts’ by pressing the edges together. Brush the star with egg or milk.
Bake the stars for approx. 25 min. in a preheated over at 180 ° C.
Take out of the over, let cool on a rack, and sprinkle with icing sugar.
